Review - Cowboy Up (The Sweet Shoppe, #1) by Melissa Schroeder

Cowboy Up - Melissa Schroeder

This is a reissue that has been slightly revised.

Linda Wheeler’s life is not going how she planned it. She left her dusty little Texas hometown years ago for the bright lights of Dallas years ago but now she is back—and not by choice. She’s flat broke and without a job. Worse, she is back in that little town she never wanted to see again and having to work at the dude ranch she co owns with her high school crush, Nicodemus McCabe.

Nic had always thought of Linda as his little sister. That is until she hit eighteen. Then, she became an obsession he had to ignore. Her father had been his savior and Nic understood his place. Now that she was back, resisting her is getting more difficult by the minute.

After a trip to The Sweet Shoppe, shared erotic dreams make it even harder for both of them to resist the temptation. But will they be able to ignore their fears and take a chance on love?

*Note: I read this book as part of the Cowboy 6 Pack Anthology. Click here for the link to my review of the anthology.

This was a quick, steamy cowboy read with a bit of a magical twist thrown in. After her now ex-boyfriend drains her bank account and she loses her job, Linda does the one thing she swore she never would – return to the dude ranch she grew up on, which she now co-owns with her high school crush Nic. What Linda doesn’t realize is that Nic has always wanted her, but knew he could never act on his feelings because of her father. Now that she is all grown up and back at the dude ranch, the sparks fly and the tension mounts between the two…throw in a little magic chocolate and some erotic dreams, and you have one sexy, steamy read!

It was a lot of fun to watch Linda and Nic together – there was so much tension between the two that they would often forget that other people were around, which created a couple of really funny scenes. I would have liked a bit more info on the characters, especially surrounding Linda and what exactly she ran from because when Charles showed up at the dude ranch I was a bit confused as to what was going on. Overall, a well-written, hot read!
