Review - If You Were Mine (The Sullivans, #5) by Bella Andre

If You Were Mine - Bella Andre

The last thing Zach Sullivan wants is to take care of his brother's new puppy for two weeks. Until he meets the dog trainer, that is. Heather is bright, beautiful, and he can't stop thinking about her. Unfortunately, she just might be the only woman on earth who wants nothing to do with him.

Heather Linsey can't believe she's stuck working with one of the city’s top dogs, auto-shop mogul Zach Sullivan. Especially when his focus is clear from the start—not only to learn how to deal with his temporary puppy...but also to make her his. Having sworn off love at seventeen when she realized it was nothing more than a pack of lies, Heather has stuck to her vow never to fall for a charming man. The last thing she expects is for Zach to be the one to tempt her into believing again.

But as Heather's determination to push Zach away only fuels his determination to get closer—and the sensual and emotional connection between them grows more and more undeniable—can two people who've both sworn off love find forever in each other's arms?

“Zach Sullivan stared with disgust at the bundle of fur chewing on his shoelace.”

With an opening line like that, I knew this was going to be another great Sullivan story. What could be bad about a love story that includes a cute little puppy named Cuddles and a sexy Sullivan brother named Zach? Nothing at all I tell you!

So we have Zach, who puts all the other sexy Sullivan men to shame in the looks department – and that is saying something since all of his brothers are H-O-T hot! He looks just like his father, so you know he is carrying around some baggage since his dad died very young and he has always felt that he has been compared to his dad. He can’t help feeling that he has to live life to the fullest and he has sworn off love, not wanting to disappoint or leave behind a woman one day. So when Zach is asked to watch cute little Cuddles for two weeks, you just know that this little Yorkshire terrier is going to turn his whole life upside down.

“His daily – and nightly – schedule was all about fast cars and pretty women. What the hell was he going to do with a puppy?”

Then there’s Heather, the dog trainer, who agrees to help Zach out with Cuddles. Even though she is attracted to Zach, she knows that no good can come any type of relationship with him. Love to her is just a bunch of lies, and she‘s not willing to risk her heart to anyone – even if he does come with a cute little puppy who her Great Dane, Atlas, has decided is his new best friend.

Now Zach doesn’t take to kindly to being told no, so the fact that Heather keeps turning down his advances is like laying down the gauntlet for him. The dogs are also conspiring against Heather – Cuddles causes some puppy mayhem in Zach’s living room, then Atlas just loves little Cuddles and wants to have play dates, and of course Cuddles still needs his training sessions. And you know when Zach and Heather finally come together it’s going to be explosive. Of course things can never be as easy as no strings sex, so when real feelings are acknowledged you know something has to happen to cause some angst…

I really loved this story – with characters like Cuddles and Atlas I couldn’t help but fall in love with another Sullivan! Still smiling with this series and can’t wait to read all about Ryan, the professional ball player, next!
